ABOUT US
The history of the Ciampac ski area begins in the mid-1970s with the foundation of the “Funivia Ciampac e Contrin SpA” company.
In 1975 the Alba-Ciampac cable car and the Sella Brunech chairlift entered into operation, thus allowing people to reach 2500 meters above sea level in a short time and to descend for around five kilometres. In the following years, other lifts were added in the Ciampac basin, specifically the Baite ski lift in 1976, the Sasso di Rocca ski lift in 1977 and the Roseal chairlift in 1981. In 2004, with the construction of the Orsa Maggiore chairlift, it was possible not only to further expand the Ciampac ski area, but above all to create a connection with the Buffaure area. This laid the foundations for the birth of the Skitour Panorama, the tour of the Val di Fassa with skis on. The Skitour Panorama made a wide area available to ski enthusiasts, which initially had around fifteen facilities for a total of 25 kilometres of slopes.
In the following years, thanks to the expansion and improvement works of the individual ski areas, the Skitour Panorama has become increasingly well-known and appreciated and, nowadays, it boasts 39 ski lifts and 70 kilometres of slopes. The construction of the Orsa Maggiore chairlift also allowed the connection between the lower and upper Val di Fassa. The importance of this connection further increased in 2015 when the Alba-Col dei Rossi cable car was built, a very strategic lift as it made Ciampac one of the first access areas to the Belvedere and above all to the renowned Sellaronda for all skiers departing from Pozza or Vigo di Fassa. With skis, therefore, you can leave directly from the villages of the lower Val di Fassa and reach all the other ski areas, avoiding the use of the car. The frequent ski bus connections with all the villages in the valley also allow you to reach Ciampac easily.
The Ciampac ski area is part of the Consorzio Impianti a Fune Fassa e Carezza and is also one of the ski areas of the Dolomiti Superski. This guarantees an excellent quality and reliability of the service offered, as well as an excellent attractiveness also for international customers.
To ensure good skiing conditions during the winter and be less limited by the quantity of natural snow, the ski area has been equipped over the years, starting in 1989, with a modern snowmaking system. Continuing year after year, we have reached the point of covering all the slopes of the ski area. With the last expansion works carried out in 2023, the company also managed to equip the remaining two slopes of the Sasso di Rocca ski lift with a snowmaking system. Every year this programmed snow system is maintained and improved in order to make it as efficient and effective as possible and to avoid wasting resources.
Important maintenance and replacement interventions were carried out on lifts as well in order to replace facilities considered no longer suitable. In particular, in 2017 the Alba Ciampac cable car was replaced with a modern ten-seater D-Line gondola, with a capacity of 2,000 people per hour. The two Sella Brunech and Roseal chairlifts were also modified in 2017 to make skiing more comfortable.
Below is the first of seven videos dedicated to the dismantling of the old Ciampac ropeway and construction of the new gondola.
The Ciampac ski area has grown over the years and now is a point of reference for all visitors of the Val di Fassa, especially for families since the Ciampac basin is a quiet place, with slopes suitable for all needs and where there is a school camp for children and absolute beginners.
In the ski area there are also slopes for expert skiers including the renowned Ciampac-Alba black slope. It is a breathtaking 2.2 km descent that leads from the Ciampac basin to the village of Alba di Canazei with a total difference in altitude of 660 meters and a maximum gradient that reaches the 56%! Starting from the winter 2023-2024, a modern timing system has also been introduced at the Sasso di Rocca ski lift, thus giving the opportunity to experience the thrill of champions by challenging friends and relatives along the slalom track.
The area completes its offer with a winter playground for children, welcoming refuges and restaurants and a snowshoe trail of around 3 kilometres which has met with great success since the beginning.
In the last few years, Ciampac has recorded notable growth even in the summer, thanks to winning projects that have made it possible to create and gradually expand the offer at high altitude. In addition to the weekly activities, already introduced in 2012, starting from summer 2023 four thematic routes have been introduced, both for adults and children, and the Ciampark playground has been enriched with original wooden games. Thanks also to the breathtaking view that can be enjoyed from the basin and the numerous excursions and walks that the area has always offered, these projects have made Ciampac a popular destination during the summer holiday, especially for families.
Nowadays the company has around 12 permanent workers, 10-12 bi-seasonal workers and 20-23 workers who work only during the winter season, when the company needs a larger workforce to be able to cover all roles and job positions.
The Funivia Ciampac e Contrin S.p.A. company is strongly linked to the territory in which it operates and considers the environment as one of the main resources to be conserved and preserved over time. The company’s attention to environmental issues, but also to the safety and health of workers, is reflected in the operational and decision-making processes that the company promotes and ensures in its working environments and is highlighted in the company policy and code of ethics drawn up by the company itself, which can be consulted by clicking on the link in the footer of the site.
